Prepare for double-take: Cher in talks for Catwoman?

Here's some weird news courtesy of the UK Telegraph, which is steadily becoming the first word on Batman casting: Apparently Christopher Nolan has pegged singer/actress Cher as his first choice for the role of Catwoman in his third Batman film, which is tentatively titled The Caped Crusader.
The Oscar-winner will join a cast that includes Johnny Depp as The Riddler as she plays the whip-carrying burglar. The character has also been played by Michelle Pfeiffer and Halle Berry.

A studio executive said: "Cher is Nolan's first choice to play Catwoman. He wants to her to portray her like a vamp in her twilight years."

I'm not quite sure what to even make of this bizarre news at the moment. I'd like to give Nolan the benefit of the doubt and put forth that Heath Ledger wasn't on the top of the people's list for Joker, but it still weirds me out that Nolan even thought of Cher. Granted, she has experience in acting, and even nabbed an Oscar for her role in Moonstruck. But still. I mean, is Nolan planning on pursuing the physical relationship between Batman and Catwoman, which is a central theme in the comics? Because that would be... strange. We'll see how this pans out, I suppose.

  1. I think Cher would do Catwoman the kind of justice such a character deserves. At least, thank god, it won't be Angelina, because eWw.

I was not liking the idea of Angelina Jolie as Catwoman, but the idea of Cher in the Nolan universe just... rubs me the wrong way.

  3. Cher is definitely unexpected, but SO much better than old skanky-lips Jolie. Also, I don't know why, but Johnny Depp as the Riddler isn't thriling me. British, gun-running Penguin sounded cooler.
