The Dark Knight update: New Joker image and a teaser!

Joker don't mess around, man. He'll cut ya, he'll cut ya real nice!

Anyone who has A) Ever known me; B) Heard about me from a friend; C) Passed by me in the mall or; D) Never heard of me but has just now stumbled upon this particular entry will know: I AM SO VERY, VERY EXCITED ABOUT "THE DARK KNIGHT." For me, this is the Holy Grail of superhero movies; something that can be so ridiculously awesome, and yet possesses the utmost potential to disappoint. I hang on every rumor, feed off of every image and set photo. I live for this film.

And today, the first teaser was released (Quicktime required).

The teaser has no actual footage or images from the film ... it's a conversation between Bruce Wayne (Christian Bale) and his butler, Alfred (Michael Caine). Wayne says that the mob has "crossed the line" in siding with someone; who, we can all guess. The Bat symbol floats before us, illuminated by flashing lights. Alfred goes on to say, "Some men just want to watch the world burn." And then we hear it for the first time ... the voice of Joker (Heath Ledger). "Starting tonight," he rasps, "people are going to die. I'm a man of my word." And then there is a chilling, high-pitched laugh and the screen goes dark.

And I promptly wet myself.

Do yourself a favor. Watch this teaser, and then start getting excited about this movie. If the file linked above is too big for your computer to handle, check out this smaller file, hosted on Joker's WhySoSerious? site.

  1. I'm so excited. This is probably my most anticipated of 2008. Yes, more anticipated than the fourth Indiana Jones.

Who knew Heath Ledger had maniacal laughter in him? Or maniacal - period? And it's good too. So... bone-chilling. You picked a good day to come back.

As for the part of whysoserious with the surveilance, I'm not sure what to think of that. It doesn't hold a candle to the other awesome things this particular movie has done with viral marketing.

This surveilance thing sort of looks like they're trying to make Gotham seem like a real world that operates in real time. These are things that are happening now in the fictional world of Gotham and the movie's events will be taking place after as a direct result of the things happening now.
    that would be cool.
Or maybe they're giving away a plot point in the movie. What do you think?

  2. By the way... I knew I spelled surveillance with one 'l'. I suck.

  3. Holy effing god. Excuse me while I go change my pants, because I just wet myself.

    Okay, that was really gross.

But in all seriousness, I am so excited for this movie. Like Jess, I was a bit hesitant when I heard that Ledger was playing the Joker, considering I can't forget his 'Ten Things I Hate About You' performance. You know, when he's a hunky teen idol. But all hesitancies aside, that trailer was soooo awesome.

And where or where did you get that screen cap from the movie??? I am interested in seeing more.

  4. Jess: What do you mean it doesn't hold a candle? Do you have even the slightest idea what that is? Here's the break-down:

    - A comic-con goer finds a dollar bill on the street, defaced to look like the Joker with the words "whysoserious.com" written on it.

    - The website lists a longitude and latitude and a time.

    - Hundreds show up.

    - A phone number appears in the sky courtesy of a sky writer, along with the words, "hahahaha."

    - Several hours later, all those in attendance take to the streets in Joker makeup.

Hold a candle? On the contrary, it's the most insanely awesome thing yet.

  6. Ah. I see. I went to whysoserious.com and just saw a bunch of pictures of what looked like a carnival with people in Joker makeup. My mistake.
